20th Anniversary – Founding of Physical Equilibrium

Celebrate Our 20 Years!

As we celebrate the 20-year anniversary of Physical Equilibrium, we want to also celebrate your commitment to your own health and wellness. Join us the week of May 1st – 10th with free classes, fitness and wellness activities to win gear, products and classes from Physical Equilibrium and our partners. I hope to see you in person or virtually that week! Schedule and details to soon be announced.

When I founded Physical Equilibrium 20 years ago, I had been working under the constraints of a big chain gym, following their rules, their program design, and selling training packages the way they wanted. I often say while working there I learned more what not to do than what to do. I knew I could service clients better with some freedom. While it was a big jump and a little financially scary, I thought I’d give it try as I didn’t have much to lose. I wanted to give clients a personalized, supportive experience to maximize their overall health goals and fitness in a fun and manageable way which they could incorporate into their own lifestyle while feeling good about it.

Now looking back I’m so happy I did. Physical Equilibrium has grown into something special and I cannot image doing anything else. I have the perfect complementary business partner, Sarah Currie, who I also consider one of my oldest friends in NYC (she joined the team in 2006!). In 2011, together we started the goal to integrate Physical Equilibrium with some of the best doctors, physical therapists and top notch wellness providers in New York City and the Hamptons, all while building an amazing team of trainers and teachers to give our clients the top notch experience and expertise in all things health and wellness.

Persevering Over Challenges

Now, don’t get me wrong. There have been challenges and learning opportunities as we grew. The largest being just 4 years ago when I was celebrating my 20th year of being a trainer, the world was hit with the global pandemic. This business that took nearly 20 years to slowly, methodically, and organically build almost evaporated before my eyes. I had heart palpitations and anxiety attacks almost daily not knowing what was going to become of the world and the fitness industry if we managed to survive. The thing that held us together and got us to the other side was the community we created. I’m totally grateful to all of you who stuck with us, kept training, kept teaching, and kept sending clients our way. People do find value in health, wellness, and personal connections. This is our ultimate goal.

Physical Equilibrium – Balance Your Body

For each of us, finding that balance in our bodies is different. There’s so many aspects that go into health and wellness: more than just how you “look” or how “fit” you are. That’s what we promote here at Physical Equilibrium. We help you with the things that are harder for you to incorporate into your life or you don’t have experience with – strength training, cardiovascular endurance, mobility, nutrition, hydration, recovery, overcoming an injury, completing a race, competing in a sport, and how to take ownership of these things to start or continue doing them better on your own.
