Physical Equilibrium offers private personal training designed around your goals, your movement history, and the realities of living in New York City. Whether you want to build strength, improve body composition, increase energy, return safely after injury, or train with more structure and accountability, our Midtown Manhattan trainers create a plan that is both intelligent and sustainable.
We begin by understanding where you are today—strength, mobility, endurance, lifestyle, and any relevant injuries—then build a program that progresses with you. Training is available at our Madison Avenue facility in Midtown Manhattan, at our East Hampton location, in-home or in-office where appropriate, and virtually for clients who travel or prefer remote coaching.
At Physical Equilibrium, personal training is not a generic workout—it’s a structured coaching relationship built on assessment, education, and progressive programming. We believe the best results come from training that is tailored to your body, your schedule, and your goals, while respecting the realities of past injuries, stress, sleep, and recovery.
Our trainers emphasize movement quality, strength fundamentals, and long-term consistency. That means we train with purpose: improving stability and mobility where needed, building strength safely, and progressing intelligently over time. Whether your focus is fat loss, strength development, improved athletic performance, postural correction, or simply feeling better day-to-day, our approach is personal, professional, and results-driven without shortcuts or gimmicks.
Physical Equilibrium is located at 515 Madison Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, offering private personal training in a professional, well-equipped environment designed for focused coaching. Our team works with a wide range of clients—from busy NYC professionals and beginners to experienced athletes—using individualized programming that supports performance, resilience, and long-term health.
Training sessions may include strength training, functional movement, cardiovascular conditioning, mobility work, and recovery-based methods depending on your goals and needs. We prioritize proper technique, progressive overload when appropriate, and a plan that makes sense for your lifestyle. If you’ve dealt with injuries or movement limitations, our coaching style is informed, conservative when needed, and built around safe progression.
Our certified training team begins with an initial fitness assessment to understand your current baseline and identify the most productive, safest path forward. This assessment helps us tailor your training plan to your goals, fitness level, and any relevant injury history.
Tests and metrics may include:
We use this information to build a personalized training plan and establish clear benchmarks, so progress is measurable—not guesswork.
In addition to our Midtown Manhattan facility on Madison Avenue, Physical Equilibrium also offers personal training in East Hampton, New York. Both locations provide the same high standard of coaching and individualized programming, now available year-round.
For clients who move between Manhattan and the Hamptons, we can help maintain continuity in training so you stay on track without restarting every season. We also offer virtual coaching for frequent travelers and clients who prefer to train remotely.
Sara Dimmick and team at Physical Equilibrium are AMAZING! I ran my first marathon this past November in NYC. I had a very aggressive time goal and I am in my 40s - I wanted to accomplish my goal without getting injured. I was referred to Sara at Physical Equilibrium by another one of their clients. She became my marathon coach through the entire process.I worked with Sara over the many months of my training. I had an online schedule tailored just for me which included running plans, weights, cross training exercises. I met Sara in person monthly (at my choice) for adjustments in weights (form adjustment, etc). She was available through comments on Training Peaks (our training plan software) as well as via text, email and phone.

Physical Equilibrium has been great for my physical and mental health. Through training with Zach M I have been able to strengthen my entire body and can feel the results every day! Zach challenges me during personal training workouts to push my boundaries while still maintaining safe bodily metrics. Thanks for making me feel so good!

Physical Equilibrium is my go to for a great workout! Lift Club is the perfect environment for small group training. Sara, Zach and all of the instructor focus on form while pushing me to get the most I can out of the work out. The work outs are customized depending on my weaknesses, what areas I would like to focus on and taking my current ailments into account. After about a year of training, I feel stronger than I ever have. Can not say enough about how great the team at PE is!

A truly amazing gym! My running has improved so much since I started training here. Zach in particular is the absolute best for both strength training and run coaching. 10/10 HIGHLY recommend!!

I took a pilates class from Jesse and he was really great, it was like having a personal trainer in my home through zoom.He gave modifications to the exercises if they were too challenging for me and he explained and showed me how to do the exercises properly so I could maximize my workout.

I’ve been working with Sara and trainers at Physical Equilibrium for a decade. They are all about proper form and coaching to each persons individual needs. They are so reliable and trustworthy too! Would highly recommend this team.

Always enjoy the strength-for-runners training sessions with Zach. He takes the time to explain how to get the best from the moves, and corrects for proper form when necessary. Highly recommend.

Physical Equilibrium has top notch trainers in a well designed, pleasant and clean environment in Midtown. Boutique feeling with personal attention. They are centrally located but if you prefer, they also do house calls. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a personalized, results-driven approach.

I have been so pleased with my time training at Physical Equilibrium with Zach. He has gotten me where I hoped to go in terms of all body conditioning, plus some! I am able to run, hike, or climb without fear that my aging body will break down. Thank you, Zach! I have also gotten to know many of the other people at PE. It is such a lovely community inside of a fantastic facility. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Kendra Madigan is a total game-changer! She got me into the best shape of my life for my son’s wedding over a year and a half ago, and I'm still training with her today! Her workouts are always different, keeping me engaged and challenged in the best way. Kendra's attention to my form and posture makes a huge difference in how I feel day to day, and it's helped me see amazing results. Her advice on nutrition and wellness ties everything together perfectly. If you're serious about your goals, I can’t recommend Kendra enough!

The trainers at physical equilibrium are amazing! They are very precise and have gotten me through multiple orthopedic issues over the years. My strength has increased and they are continuously challenging me and helping me become stronger and leaner.

I’ve been coming to Lift Club at Physical Equilibrium for about a year now. The trainers are super knowledgeable, and I always learn something new at every session. As a 30 something year old woman, getting into weight lifting and finding the right gym can be intimidating, but this place is anything but. Everyone is welcoming, and the space is very clean with top of the line equipment. It’s never too crowded. Lift club is small group personal training, but you still get a lot of one on one attention. They also do personal training. The trainers really care. Sara and Zach are excellent, but you really can’t go wrong with anyone here. I’m so much stronger and healthier than before I started coming here.

I love PE! Zach creates workouts that challenge me but are still manageable. He pushes me to try my hardest while emphasizing safety and injury prevention (so important for runners!). I have better upper body and core strength now. And I’ve been intimidated by Pilates in the past, but Amelia makes it accessible and fun! My posture has improved. I always leave PE feeling energized and excited and just the right amount of muscle soreness.

I could not be more grateful to my personal trainers at Physical Equilibrium! I started working with PE as a post-rehab trainer, coming out of PT after my 2nd shoulder surgery. They have done an incredible job keeping me on track, progressing safely and at exactly the right pace for me. Each trainer thoughtfully plans each session, but is quick to adapt and truly tuned into what’s best in the moment. I always look forward to our sessions, and it feels amazing to be getting so strong in a safe, fun and sustainable way. I would highly recommend Physical Equilibrium and their trainers for personal training.

I have been seeing Eve at Physical Equilibrium for a few years now and have never felt better. The workouts she puts together are challenging but fun, and she varies them every few weeks. I used to dread going to a trainer and now look forward to my 2x a week. I feel the strongest I've ever been. The gym is also very conveniently located, with great equipment.

Julia Halpin is a phenomenal trainer and is extremely knowledgeable about the body and post rehab training. I was paired up with Julia by Sara Dimmick a few years ago when I explained what I was looking for in a trainer. Julia is incredibly skilled and understands how to help build strength, while keeping me pain free. I’m so grateful to have found Julia and PE.

The trainers here are excellent and the gym is top notch and beautiful. I've been strength training with Sara Dimmick as I train for running and triathlon. This has been game changing for my overall health and race performance.

I've been strength training with Sara Dimmick, co-owner of Physical Equilibrium, for more than five years and it is a wonderful facility with fantastic instructors and equipment. I love it's small size ... definitely not a gym factory! Sara has over twenty years of experience and trains all types of athletes, in particular triathletes and marathoners. I'm an endurance cyclist and given my long hours on the bike, strength training is key to having a strong core for stability and of course lower and upper body strength to tackle the miles and the climbs. Sara also works extensively with clients with injury rehabilitation. The gym has a wonderful sunlit Pilates and yoga studio as well and private rooms for massage. I highly recommend Physical Equilibrium for its personalized service and extremely talented trainers!

I hate working out. I took a 7:30am Pilates class here with Cherry the instructor and it kicked my ass and made me feel so great the rest of the day. I haven't gone back yet but I check out the schedule all the time. The staff was all so nice. I saw a few people working out with personal trainers - seems like a really safe and nurturing place. I didn't feel uncomfortable or judged like I do when I go to some other "fancy" gyms like this one. Seems like a group of people who care about their bodies, and who have fun. Oh oh also SUPER nice changing and shower facilities! Free yoga mats (don't have to rent). Also the studio was small and they said they don't ever let the classes feel crowded so I liked that too. I will definitely go back.

I am very happy to recommend Physical Equilibrium and to share my experience of joy and relief after the classes I attended, I m very close to the due date in my pregnancy and i could never imagine that my body was able to do so many exercise , feeling powerful and in shape as my weight has not change, it has felt healthy and magical. i am very thankful to Julia the personal trainer I worked out with and to Sara who is very experienced as a trainer and as a mom so that she could lead me and explain a lot about my physical changes. both teachers have the necessary grit and enthusiasm to inspire and stimulate in order to feel pleasure with really little effort in every movement.. thank you

Incredible professionalism from the team at Physical Equilibrium. Have been working with Zachary Moxham for years now and can’t speak more highly on his work ethic and commitment to my health goals. 5 out of 5 highly recommend

It took me a lot of trial and error to find a place like PE and a trainer like Julia Halpin. If you like when a trainer is really, really listening to you both when it comes to goals and session-to-session, she’s the best! I started with her this summer with a clear set of baseline strength challenges (I got tired from holding my niece), and I have felt so much progress in my goals! She’s developed programs that are VERY different to stuff I’ve done in the past and I think it really speaks to the level of personalization you get from a true professional in their field when it’s the quickest I’ve ever seen results.I also appreciate her more thoughtful demeanor because if you’re thinking about doing personal training and worried someone is gonna yell at you or “push you,” when you really want someone who acts somewhere between partner and a coach, she’s the one!

The Physical Equilibrium team is the best! Professional trainers with the right skill set to help me achieve my goals. And just as important, they are dependable, caring and fun.

Jesse Barnett is a superb teacher. He always explains the how and why, keeping the exercises plain and simple while always challenging one to reach beyond.

Love the people who run this place; their skill sets and sensitivities, their professionalism, humor, and facilities. I am in the best shape that I've ever been. Totally Great!
